Statement Regarding Covid 19 Virus and Public Safety affecting Skeetawk Operations:

Hatcher Alpine Xperience recognizes the current need to follow both federal and state community and workplace health guidelines. We are closely monitoring the current situation with public facility and ski area closures state wide. We have not issued public opening dates for Skeetawk in regards to ski area operations. We are addressing risk management decisions regarding pending spring operations day by day as we progress through the final weeks of construction and safety checks.

Skeetawk has no anticipated timeline for spring operations and is CLOSED to all access beyond essential security and caretaking functions.

A resident caretaker will remain on site.

Skeetawk will continue to work diligently through the decision making process with staff, volunteer, and public safety as a priority.

Thank you for your patience.

Snow and Weather:

For up to date snow and weather information please see:

The spring meltdown has begun! Although Skeetawk had picked up an additional 1-3" of wet snow through this week's storm cycle, much of our new precipitation fell as rain. Skeetawk picked up close to 1" of rain after recent snowfall this week. Much of the snowpack at lower elevations is saturated off trail. Please be aware of difficult surface conditions and heavy wet snow impeding backcountry travel.

New rain on snow events and increased temps will increase the avalanche hazard throughout the weekend.

Weather through Sunday of this weekend looks cloudy and wet with scattered rain showers. Day time temperatures could reach the mid 40's with lows remaining above the freezing levels.

Reminder on safe backcountry travel techniques:

Local public health, search and rescue, as well as volunteer resources have been spread very thin due to recent Covid-19 workloads on public health providers.

Please make wise and conservative decisions when recreating in Hatcher Pass and practice social distancing.

Please check the latest avalanche hazard advisory for Hatcher Pass here:

Our season snowfall total is 139”.

Total Snow Depth at Skeetawk Base Area is approximately 0"

Thin spots, bare ground, and unmarked hazards exist!

The Frostbite Bottom Weather Station is on line and posting reliable data from the 2700' elevation point at tree line in our permit area. This information is available here:

Skeetawk Gate for Backcountry Trailhead Access is Open 5/9 from 9am-6pm

Please do not park below the gate as it impedes our snow removal and heavy equipment access
